This has been one of my favorite paintings since I first saw it while studying Rome in middle school. I'm reminded of it because we had to do an ekphrastic poem for the Creative Writing class and I decided to write about this one. Since choosing it, I've discovered that it's a painting of the goddess Flora, found in Pompeii during excavations. Not much in the same line as Rembrandt's fat, matronly Floras.
